I'm going to marry I'm going to marry I'm going to marry that pretty little girl
Where’s that girl, where’s she gone, Where’s the girl with the josie on?
Stole my heart, away she’s gone, Where’s the girl with the josie on?
Wish I was a june apple
Hanging on a tree
Everytime my true love pass
Take a bite of me
Take a bite of me my love
Take a bite of me
Everytime my true love pass
take a bite of me.
You ride the old grey mare
I'll ride the roan
You get there before I do
Leave my gal alone
Train on the island
Heard that whistle blow
Thought I heard my true love say
Yonder comes my beau
Going 'cross the mountain
I'm going in a swing
And when I get to the other side
I'll hear my true love sing.
Don't you hear that banjo sing
I wish that gal was mine
Can't you hear that banjo sing
I wish that gal was mine.
Charlie he's a nice young man
Charlie he's a dandy
Charlie he's a nice young man
Feeds the girls on candy.
Goin down to the river to feed my sheep
Going down to the river Charlie
Going down to the river to feed my sheep
Feed them on Barley.
Well, there's a dark and a troubled side of life There's a bright and a sunny side too But if you meet with the darkness and strife The sunny side we also may view
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we keep on the sunny side of life
Oh, the storm and its fury broke today Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear Clouds and storms will in time pass away The sun again will shine bright and clear
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
Let us greet with a song of hope each day Though the moments be cloudy or fair Let us trust in our Savior always To keep us, every one, in His care
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
Old yellar dog went trottin' through the meetin' house,
Trottin through the meetin' house,
Trottin through the meetin' house;
Old yellar dog went trottin' through the meetin' house,
Down in Alabam'.
Brave boys here, brave boys there,
Brave boys here, down in Alabam'.
Old Joe Hooker wont ya come on out the wilderness,
Come on out the wilderness,
Come on out the wilderness;
Old joe hooker wont you come on out the wilderness,
And fight these boys in gray
CHORUS
Great big house nobody lives in,
Nobody lives in, nobody lives in;
Great big house nobody lives in,
Down in Alabam'.
CHORUS
Lyrics are from Tom, Brad & Alice (Album- Holly Ding). They are not traditional to the tune and are taken from the book Negro Folk Rhymes by Thomas W. Talley.
Never you mind what the rich folks say
May the Mighty bless you, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away ladies, sail away.
Never you mind what your daddy say
Shake your little foot and fly away
Never you mind if your mama say,
“Devil’s gonna take you,” sail away
